Developing Artist Statement
Everyone has something that they obsess over. You can call me strange, but my obsession is the beauty I hold for the human body. The curves, bends, folds of skin, hair, smiles, spines, and the weight the butt holds; all of these aspects make my skin crawl. I warp the body and show different perspectives. The drastic light wrapping around my figures allows for the breaking up of shapes. I see line as a unique unreal form. When looking at a body lines are forming in our brains trying to break out onto the page in an enticing manor, but by changing or elaborating what we see we are left with a subconscious image of what could be, or creating a quirky world where something does not seem right. The series of drawings I am currently working on formally breaths contrast and perspective. Instead of dealing with the figure head on, my angles usually portray how society views my subject.
